bu jin ze tui

They are very famous and popular success process proverb in Chinese. This phrase is from Liang Qichao who was a Chinese scholar, journalist, philosopher, and reformist during the late Qing Dynasty and early Chinese Republic who inspired Chinese scholars with his writings and reform movements.

It consists of eight characters, pronounced nì shuǐ xíng zhōu, bù jìn zé tuì. Its literal meaning is to sail against the current, not to advance is to go back. The extended meaning of this proverb is that in one’s lifetime, the road to success or the process of achieving some objective is not easy, and encountering frustration is normal, even natural and man-made calamities; after all human-being is no man before nature, however, if not try hard or strive, success or achievement of objectives would be far away.
