Martial Arts chinese characters symbol (wu3)

This character is the essence or spirit of a warrior. This character is part of the word "wu shu" which is sometimes translated as "martial arts" or "kung fu".

In more modern speech and other context, this can mean military, martial, warlike, fierce, and perhaps violent, but usually as a prefix for a longer word or phrase.

Etymology: Ideogrammic compound huiyi: ge (“‘stop’”) + zhi (“‘spear’”)

From the characters ge and zhi. The character ge means spear. While the character 止 means “to stop” in modern times, it originally meant “foot” in Oracle script, according to the Chinese dictionary Kanjigen (kanjigen). The character wu martial arts chinese character may therefore have originally referred to “a man on foot with a spear”. Due to the modern meaning of zhi, wu martial arts chinese character is sometimes believed to denote “to stop a weapon” or “to stop violence” zhigeweiwu.
